Requirements for Check-in and Check-out by Card Swipe

  • The Event action Check In Visitor works on both admit accesses and rejected ones.

Initially, the temporary card is not given any Clearances - the Clearances are granted when the Visitor is checked in, so the initial card swipe results in a rejection.

  • The Event action Check Out Visitor works only on admit accesses.
  • All Visitor cards must be assigned a Clearance that allows access to the Check-in/Check-out Door/Reader combination. One way to do this is to ensure that all Personnel Visitor Templates used to create Visitor Personnel records include this Clearance.
  • The Check-in attempt is rejected if any of the following are true.
    • There are no Visits designated for the Visitor for the day.
    • The Visitor has two ongoing visits at the time when the card is swiped. For example, if the visitor has a visit from 9:00am to 11:00am, and a visit on the same day from 10:00am to 11:50am, the operation fails if the card is swiped at 10:30am.
    • The Visitor uses a lost or stolen card at the Door while attempting to Check-in or Check-out.
  • Timing is validated for Check-in. Visitors can check in prior to the Visit scheduled Start Time on the scheduled day of the Visit, but before the Visit scheduled End Time.
  • Timing is not validated for Check Out - a Visitor can check-out any time: before or after the scheduled Visit End Time.
Note: The Visitor does not need to have to activate their visit through the Check-in card swipe to activate a Check-out card swipe operation. Check-out card swipe couplets for any ongoing visit for the card owner regardless of the way the visitor was checked-in.

Example: For Check-in

The Acme Company site has a Door configured for visitor check-in near the receptionist's desk.

  1. A Visitor with a Visit scheduled for the day presents the temporary access card (they were given by the receptionist) at the Door for check-in.
  2. The Card is rejected because the Visitor's card does not yet have the appropriate Clearances.
  3. However, because the Visitor is recognized as a listed Visitor for an ongoing Visit within the schedule for this Door action, the Visitor is automatically checked-in for the visit.
  4. The necessary clearances are applied to the temporary card.
  5. The Visitor presents the card again and is admitted through the door.

Example: For Check-out

  1. When the Visit is complete, the Visitor swipes the card at the door for Check-out.
  2. Upon receiving an admit response (the card has the appropriate Clearance) the Visitor is checked out of the visit.
  3. If a badge return station or receptacle is set up, the Visitor returns the badge by dropping it into a slot.
